Google Business Profile: A Step-by-Step Guide for Local Businesses in Erode

By admin /

When someone in Erode searches "textile shop near me", "dentist in Perundurai" or "best biryani Erode", the first results they see are not websites. They are Google Business Profiles on the map. For a local business, this free listing is often the most valuable piece of online marketing you own.

What is a Google Business Profile?

It is the panel Google shows for your business in Search and Maps: name, address, phone, opening hours, photos, reviews, and buttons to call, get directions or visit your website. Customers can contact you without ever opening your website, which is exactly why it must be accurate.

Step 1: Claim and verify your profile

Search for your business on Google Maps. If it already exists, claim it; if not, add it. Google will verify that you own the business, usually by phone, email, video or postcard. Until it is verified, you cannot fully manage the listing.

Step 2: Get the basics exactly right

  • Name: your real business name, without extra keywords. Stuffing keywords into the name can get a listing suspended.
  • Address and map pin: check the pin sits on your actual entrance.
  • Phone and website: use a number that is answered during business hours.
  • Hours: include special hours for festivals such as Pongal and Deepavali.

Step 3: Choose the right categories

Your primary category has a big influence on which searches you appear for. Pick the most specific one ("Saree shop" rather than "Store"), then add a few relevant secondary categories.

Step 4: Add photos and products

Profiles with good photos get more calls and direction requests. Add your shop front (so people recognise it), the inside, your team and your best products or work. Add your main products or services with short descriptions.

Step 5: Build reviews, and reply to all of them

Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking signals and the first thing customers read. Ask happy customers for a review with a short link or QR code at the counter. Reply to every review, politely and quickly, including negative ones. Never buy fake reviews: Google removes them and can penalise the listing.

Step 6: Keep it active

  • Publish posts for offers, new arrivals and events.
  • Answer questions in the Q&A section.
  • Check Performance insights to see how many people called, asked for directions or visited your website.

Connect it with your website

Your profile and website support each other. Make sure your website shows the same name, address and phone number, has a page for each main service, and loads fast on mobile. A strong website helps Google trust your listing, and the listing sends customers to your website.

  • Verified profile with accurate name, address, phone and hours.
  • Specific primary category and relevant extra categories.
  • At least 10 good photos, updated regularly.
  • A steady flow of genuine reviews, all answered.
